Week Five
I cannot believe there are only three more weeks until I complete this course, the time has gone by so fast! ACAD 103 was my first class at Trinity and I was unsure if I was going to make it. As I walked into my first class that Monday, I was overwhelmed with the thought of how many papers I would have to write; however, as each week passed, I became more confident and less overwhelmed. Throughout the course, I was not shy of asking Mrs. Aggen for examples of the grammar rules I was unsure of, especially hyphens. During class, I took advantage of the time I had, correcting a sentence up at the board; it was a great hands-on lesson.
When I complete a paper, I allow myself a few days for proofreading. During this time, I will go back to my notes and the Writers Reference of sentences I am unsure of. I will also space out the rest of the paper to focus on one sentence at a time to allow myself to read it out loud. I do not let myself to stress over it, because that is when I will change a sentence multiple times just to change it back to my original sentence. Taking time away from my paper has also helped me to catch errors I have previously missed. Another great tool that I use is allowing someone to help me with proofreading; four eyes are better than two!
ACAD 103 class has provided with me some great tools and knowledge that I will be sure to use as I continue in the Business Management program, along with sending emails at work. I now find myself correcting others emails co-workers have sent me. I am happy that I did not let my fears get the best of me, I have accomplished so much already!
Always remember that fear is your greatest enemy. You will continue to learn for the rest of your life. The best thing you can do is embrace the new things you learn, rather than feeling insulted by corrections or mistakes. Everyone will make mistakes, no matter who they are. Having an open mind to learning and correcting your own errors will make you a very valuable employee!
